To address the urgent issues of escalating fuel prices and stricter emission restrictions TecnoVeritas developed Enermulsion, an innovative solution designed to reduce exhaust emissions (NOx, CO2, VOCs, PM) while being able to simultaneously reduce fuel consumption.
WHAT IS ENERMULSION?
Enermulsion is an inline system based on ultrasound technology that processes marine fuels and water, producing engine load optimized water in fuel emulsions, therefore increasing fuel efficiency and reducing engine emissions and maintenance.
Enermulsion can be adjusted automatically for fuel savings up to 6% and/or NOx and PM emissions reduction.The installation of Enermulsion requires no modifications to the engines and no interruptions to engine operation. On the other side Enermulsion is an “In-Line” system and no additional tanks are required.
Enermulsion makes you save money and your vessels greener at the same time!
HIGH FUEL EFFICIENCY
Saving Up to 6%
Less Maintenance Costs
LOWER NOx EMISSIONS
Compliance/ Smaller SCR
LESS PM EMISSIONS
Less Smoke/ Cleaner Operation
IN LINE SYSTEM
- Saves fuel by achieving better specific fuel consumption;
- Cleaner combustion eliminates soot deposition and reduces combustion and exhaust system maintenance costs;
- Avoid excessive port fees, fines and time by complying with emission regulations without the need for costly emissions control equipment.
FUEL SAVINGS CASE-STUDY
Considering a small propulsion plant equipped with a 4 stroke medium speed engine of 4.3MW and a SFOC=230g/kWh operated with HFO (38OcSt) price of 620€ /Ton, the savings in 24 hours assuming a 5% reduction compared to actual SFOC would be 1.18 Ton/day corresponding to a 735.8€/day, or 220.744€/year considering 300 days of operation a year at full load.
An Emulsified Fuel in simple terms means a mixture of water in fuel oil in such a way that small particles (around 6 µm) of water are formed in the fuel oil to produce a stable water-in-fuel emulsion. The main purpose of doping fuel oil with small quantities of water (up to 20%) is to improve combustion efficiency and thus thermal efficiency, resulting in better specific fuel consumption.
NOx EMISSIONS REDUCTION PRINCIPLE
NOx formation depends highly on combustion temperature. Temperature reduction in the combustion chamber is achieved with the addition of extremely small water droplets coated with fuel oil (homogeneous water in fuel emulsion). By changing the percentage of water in the emulsion, the temperature inside the combustion chamber can be controlled to inhibit NOx formation and hence fuel economy.
