SLOP OIL TREATMENT

TecnoVeritas developed a comprehensive Ultrasound based system, to recycle “Slop Tank Residues”, obtaining a premium oil product out of waste oils, therefore, the Slop Oil Treatment is an environmentally friendly technology as it is an alternative to incineration.

Recycling a residue into a premium fuel with high energy, improved combustion properties and resulting emissions is the goal. The Valorisation of the recycled product through its improved properties allows a quick payback of the investment.

THE “SLOP TANK”

The called “Slop Tank” product once collected by the authorized company, must be treated and recycled, which is an environmental benefit.

In this process, it must be dried, cleaned from solid particles and conditioned to become a product with market value. For example as heavy residual fuel for cement industry, or ships.

“Waste prevention is not primarily a question of waste, but an environmental good practice.”

THE REGULATIONS

Strict Regulations and the most recent requirements of MARPOL VI dictates that sulphur contents of fuel oils for ship operation must be inferior to 1%.

Most “slop tank stocks” have non‐compliant properties, like higher sulphur contents, or a lower flash point temperature. An adequate product manipulation is needed to bring such properties to acceptable standards, therefore valorising such products.

ABOUT SLOP OIL

Ship operations produce hydrocarbon residues from ballast water, tank washing and other hydrocarbon mixtures from the engine room and bilge waters. In many cases, these waste are illegally drained to the sea.

To avoid it, IMO imposed the presentation of certificates reporting waste unloading in the last port to the port authorities through an authorized MARPOL collector.
